Homemade Beans
8 April 2010 by Jean JohnsonIt’s so easy to get on a roll when you’ve got some homemade beans waiting in the fridge. Talk about ultrafast. All you do is flash cook some seasonal vegs into a warm salad, dress with oil and vinegar, add the beans for protein, season with salt and red chile flakes or black pepper. Butter the bread and you’re there on pennies.

If you’re still buying canned beans, here’s a vid to inspire you to keep your money and take back your kitchen. After all a big pot of beans freezes up in to small containers beautifully and you’re set for a week or two.

Just in the last few months I’ve really made an effort to purchase packaged dry beans (or in bulk) and scheduled the time to make them.
So worth the effort.

Cool Jessica. Definitely appreciate the inertia it takes to make a shift like this. Don’t you agree, though, that now that you’ve crossed the borderline, so to speak, simmering up a pot of beans is hardly any bother at all…
